TGIT:
All PR is Local
DATE February 20, 2003
SPEAKER Jack Prather
OVERVIEW Come join fellow professionals in a discussion on how to
communicate when you have a limited (or no) budget. Come get new ideas
from across various industries on how professionals manage a lot with
very few resources. “The local PR niche has been largely overlooked
because most professionals write only about national corporations
or entities,” Prather explains. “The same basic methodologies apply
even though the scope and budget may vary greatly, whether the mission
is to gain publicity, resolve a crisis, provide marketing support,
build an image, establish credibility or provide counsel to a client.”
Prather has consulted since 1972 with such diverse clients as the
1993 winner of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award presented
by President Clinton in Washington D.C., Playboy Clubs Inc. for 10
years, and dozens of small businesses, healthcare entities, manufacturers,
professional firms and non-profits. He has won the National Communicator
Award of Distinction, honors for advertising, marketing, freelance
writing and poetry, and Best Column in All Divisions from the New
Jersey Press Association.

DATE September 29, 2003
SPEAKERS Ann Wylie, Wylie Communications, Wendy Flanagan, Murray
OVERVIEW A how-to seminar that covers the construction and positioning
of content and the brainstorming process. Noted communicator Ann Wylie
returned to New Jersey to discuss “How to Think Like A Reader.” She
helped our audience put themselves in their reader’s head to position
their messages in their audience’s best interest. Attendees left this
session with a four-step process for making all copy more important,
valuable and rewarding to readers. In addition, Ann discussed how
to reinforce key messages while keeping readers engaged with these
fresh editorial formats. Increase readership by applying the formula
people use to decide whether to read copy. Effective
communications convey both information and emotion to your target
audience. For the afternoon, Wendy Flanagan conducted a brainstorming
session to help evaluate the goals and motives of the project and
audience. She gave an insiders view to the design process to engage
a successful creativity session. Adding to the dialogue, Paul Ciotta
of AT&T and Angie Serviss of TAH Industries brought perspective
